The VHS Set recolor brings playful late-nineties media nostalgia straight into Build Mode, offering custom decorative electronics that make suburban living rooms feel authentically grounded in retro history. In The Sims 4, entertainment consoles are almost exclusively sleek modern flatscreens, minimalist soundbars, and wall-mounted panels. When building family homes set in the eighties or nineties, or crafting cluttered teenage bedrooms in Copperdale, finding believable vintage tech with fun pop-culture colors is a constant challenge. This custom asset pack revamps classic analog video hardware with cheerful pastel tones and rainbow accents that brighten up any media cabinet.
Opening Build Mode and filtering under decorative clutter and electronics, the set provides two distinct assets: the vintage video player deck and its matching handheld remote control. While these objects are purely decorative rather than functional video players, their visual fidelity and thoughtful slotting make them indispensable for interior decorators. Simmers who enjoy creating eclectic vintage spaces can combine these pieces alongside themed collections like the Belaloallure Rustic Retro pack to furnish nostalgic basement dens and cozy game rooms.
Retro Living Room Nostalgia and VHS Set Origins
The visual design of the player captures the charming, bulky industrial styling of nineties home media. The front faceplate features an authentic tape loading door, molded tracking knobs, a power button, and a retro digital clock display. The creator avoided the flat painted look common in low-effort clutter CC by modeling physical depth into the tape slot and front buttons. When zooming in close with the free camera, the edges show clean beveling that reflects soft ambient highlights.
The companion remote control is modeled with equal affection for retro ergonomics. It features a long rectangular plastic shell with rows of rubberized number buttons, a directional pad, and a distinct red power switch at the top. The proportioning matches standard Sim hand scales, looking totally natural when resting on a coffee table next to magazines, drink coasters, and empty snack bowls.
Because the release serves as an expanded recolor of the original 3D mesh, it breathes fresh personality into existing custom clutter catalogs. The original creator sculpted balanced geometry, and this recolor package expands its utility by moving beyond basic black and gray plastic shells to embrace lively bedroom color schemes.
Fourteen Color Swatches and Rainbow Accent Detailing
The color palette is the core highlight of this release, offering fourteen swatches for the main player deck. Seven of the options feature solid pastel tones, including bubblegum pink, soft lavender, mint green, powder blue, butter yellow, crisp white, and matte black. These solid colors blend naturally into pastel teen bedrooms, pastel kid rooms, and quirky indie apartment builds.
The remaining seven swatches incorporate retro rainbow racing stripes printed along the top and side casing. These diagonal rainbow bands evoke the nostalgic aesthetics of vintage VHS cassette packaging and analog electronics branding from decades past. The graphic lines are printed with crisp vector resolution, avoiding blurry pixel artifacts or color bleed even under high-definition graphics settings.
The handheld remote control includes ten swatches that coordinate with the player units. You can choose matching monochromatic remotes to pair with your chosen console, or intentionally mix contrasting colors, like pairing a lilac remote with a mint green player deck, to mimic the chaotic energy of real-world family media centers.
Decorative Slots and TV Stand Clutter Stacking
One of the best technical features of the main player asset is the inclusion of functional decorative placement slots. Many custom electronics have flat top surfaces with zero slots, forcing players to toggle moveobjects cheats and fiddle with manual height elevation keys just to place a stack of cassette tapes or a remote on top. This asset comes pre-configured with top slots that let clutter snap into place automatically.
You can snap the included remote directly onto the top casing, or stack custom VHS tape cases, video game cartridges, and small family photo frames on top of the unit. The collision footprint is tuned cleanly, allowing the player to slide into standard media console shelves beneath bulky CRT televisions without spearing through surrounding wooden furniture panels.
I tested slot placement across various low entertainment credenzas and corner television stands. The small deco footprint snaps reliably to center and edge slots alike, leaving enough clearance on either side for stereo speakers, potted house plants, or piles of comic books.
In-Game Lighting Behavior and Vintage Bedroom Aesthetics
Evaluating the materials in live mode demonstrated solid texture and lighting integration. The plastic housing uses a matte diffuse finish with very gentle specular reflectance, accurately mimicking the slightly textured molded ABS plastic used in nineties consumer electronics. The hardware does not glow with unrealistic metallic sheen when direct sunlight hits the front panel through living room windows.
Day-to-night lighting transitions function smoothly. In dimly lit evening rooms with only a television screen providing illumination, the player unit reflects soft ambient glow along its top ridges, blending believably into the surrounding shadows. The package file is lightweight and properly indexed, ensuring that placing multiple units across neighborhood lots causes no memory lag or frame rate stutter. Autonomous cleaning and dusting routines by Sims also pass over the clutter without triggering routing blockages or pathing errors.
For rotational storytellers who cherish period builds, vintage family dynamics, or playful teenage aesthetics, this decor set brings a joyful burst of analog history into your game. The careful attention to texture definition, decorative slotting, and color variety makes it a reliable staple for lived-in home decor.
